A one inch piece of plastic could buy you a luxury vacation to Jamaica

I only found out about this last night, but in the series 10 lego mini figures, there was a special figure "Mr.Gold". These "Mr.Gold"figures are golden chrome mini figures, and were going for thousands of dollars on e-bay. What makes Mr.gold so special, you ask? He is a limited edition figure... there are only 5,000 worldwide. Now, series 10 is no longer available, but Mr.Gold is still on e-bay... if you would like to shovel out a couple hundred dollars. Basically, the lego world went wild. He was the rarest mini fig. as well as the most talked about mini fig. There has never been another figure as rare as Mr.Gold, but who knows?

There were even reports of toysrus employees searching through cases before bringing them up to the store floor in the attempt to find Mr.Gold. Now, there is even an interactive map where you can see where Mr.Gold has been found.

It's a bit hard to see, but the strange thing is... there are 2,969 codes remaining. Where could these figures be? These are a few of my ideas...

  • In the hands of greedy scamers
  • Still in packs that have not been opened.
  • collectors checklists that have been thrown away
  • lost by time
  • The code's don't work anymore?
  • Who knows....
Series 10 is now discontinued, and came out in I think the summer of 2012. If you want some lego mini figures, series 12 from the lego movie is available now, and toysrus has TONS of cases.
Lego has not made another mini figure that was this rare, and I have a feeling they won't. Lego recived many letters about how some people wish the figure was not limited edition. But, the legacy still stands. If you are interested in this drama, you can just google or search youtube for lego Mr.Gold, and you can read more on the chaos. I hope to start getting these minifigures, but I am not going to try and afford a Mr.Gold.

Now, for my problems with the whole chaos...

  • What about one little kid who just wants to collect and play with legos? Between all of the collectors and scamers, little kids have a nearly 0% chance of getting a Mr.Gold!
  • It's a ONE INCH PIECE OF PLASTIC!!!! Plastic is made of oil. (petroleum)
It's amazing what a One inch piece of plastic can cause.
